Building community trust is hard. Building it in divided communities is even harder. This session will focus on how to build a throughline between trust, impact and organizational sustainability in communities that are disconnected, divided or undergoing a reckoning. Panelists from Charlottesville Tomorrow, Richland Source and Shasta Scout will share their newsroom and community experiences as a starting point for participants to articulate what trust metrics matter most in their own communities — and how they can improve their distribution, engagement, and revenue by leaning in to the discomfort, and the growth, of building trust. Moderated by Anita Li of The Green Line.
Session audience and takeaways:- This session is for news businesses working in communities that are disconnected, divided, polarized or undergoing a reckoning (almost all newsrooms, everywhere!) as well as news businesses looking to increase audience trust and news businesses interested in deepening the connection between journalistic impact and organizational health.
- Attendees will walk away with a framework for articulating trust metrics, a draft list of those metrics for each news org and insight into how organizations of different sizes approach this work and measure trust
