Know your audiences: Who is actually reading your work?

Who are your readers? How can knowing more about them support your organization’s sustainability? Small publishers can easily overlook audience insights to be gained from troves of “first party” and “zero party” data within their reach or already being collected. In this workshop, we’ll demystify the data jargon, and share simple, accessible approaches to develop audience insights that help publishers connect with individuals, make personal relationships and power journalism. Participants will leave with useful tools to bring back to their newsrooms, including an analytics dashboard, an audience survey template and more.
Session audience and takeaways:
  • Newsroom leaders and managers responsible for growing and engaging audiences, either for the purpose of creating a feedback loop for a better news product or for marketing a reader revenue program. 
  • We will demystify data jargon and share common accessible tactics publishers can quickly deploy to develop audience insights. High level case studies will reveal how this can inform business and editorial decisions. BlueLena will share free tools including an analytics dashboard, audience survey and a reader persona template.
