Murphy is the managing editor for the Cap Times, a 105-year-old former daily newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin that is retooling its business model. Murphy is the lead person for investigating new revenue streams, including events — most notably Cap Times Idea Fest, which debuted in 2017 — and also membership. He was also a leader in the newsroom's recent move to its own dedicated URL.
