David Bralow
First Look Institute
David S. Bralow is the Senior Vice President of Law at First Look Institute, where he provides First Amendment and other legal advice to The Intercept, Field of Vision, and the Press Freedom Defense Fund. He is also the co-founder of Lawyers for Reporters, a pro bono law firm project in partnership with the Vance Center for International Justice.
Mr. Bralow has devoted his career to helping media companies publish award-winning articles, create reader-engaging websites, broadcast and webcast hard-hitting investigative documentaries, and defend its creative content when challenged. Whether opposing a prior restraint, defending a defamation claim, resisting a subpoena, or pursuing the right to obtain government information, Mr. Bralow has been in the forefront of the development of media law.
Prior to joining First Look Institute, Mr. Bralow was senior vice president and general counsel at Digital First Media (also known as MediaNews Group, Inc.). He previously served as assistant general counsel for the Tribune Company, where he provided legal advice to their newspapers, websites and television stations. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Bralow was a reporter and editor for newspapers in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. He also taught media law courses at City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism and New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
