Irene McKisson is the co-founder and Principal Executive of Arizona Luminaria, a nonprofit news organization dedicated to truly local news and community-centered journalism. Before launching a startup, she spent 18 years at the Arizona Daily Star where she was the GM of niche audience development and co-founder and editor of #ThisIsTucson — a digital vertical experimenting with audience development and revenue. She is an ONA speaker; a participant and speaker in Google News Initiative programs; and a current GNI Fellow in the Poynter MTC program. She is an adjunct instructor at the University of Arizona teaching editing, storytelling and social media.
